A journey through Paris’s famous gardens from the mediaeval and Renaissance periods, through the classical French gardens of Tuileries, Luxembourg and Jardin des Plantes to the English gardens of the 19th century.
Thirza Vallois has lived in Paris for over 40 years. She holds several post-graduate degrees from the Sorbonne and is the author of the internationally acclaimed Around and About Paris series.

A workshop with writer, performer and poetry educator Harry Laing, presented by Dangerously Poetic and to be held at the Yogalates Centre in Bangalow from 10.30am-1.30pm. Laing has been described as Australia’s ‘finest reader of poetry’ and this workshop will concentrate on each participant’s particular vocal style and qualities. Calling for the submission of short stories (100 to 3,000 words) on the theme of romantic love between two people. Submissions to be considered for inclusion on the writer-showcase website, The Bright Light Café, and also for publication in an anthology of Bright Light Café work, scheduled for release later this year. Australian Poetry’s Centre launches a new songwriting competition, with writers and poets invited to submit the lyrics for a pop song, the music written by ARIA-award winning composer James Roche. With Prohibition in full force in the US, speakeasies were all the rage, cocaine was still legal and the Charleston, the Shimmy and The Bunny Hog were in their heyday! Speakeasy is a roaring, lively and exciting new original anthology, edited by Alisa Krasnostein and published by Twelfth Planet Press, that will blend art deco with urban fantasy, the Charleston with the vampire and the flapper with the noir detective. It will be fast paced, action packed and well dressed.
Stories for Speakeasy should be original, unpublished fantasy stories of between 2,500 wds and 7,500 wds, set in the 1920s and fun.

Applications are now open for the Rodney Seaborn Playwrights Award 2010, for the development of a play or other approved performing arts project. The winner will receive a cash prize of $20,000 making the Rodney Seaborn Playwrights Award one of the richest in Australia.
The award is intended for people needing income support during the writing or development of a project or to assist with the costs of production, workshops, restaging, publishing or touring. It is not intended as a prize for a finished work. A recipient may work alone or jointly with others and might include writers, composers, designers, directors, producers, formally constituted performing arts organisations or ad hoc groups of performing arts professionals. Words for the Future is a new project of the Bellingen Readers and Writers Festival, a celebration of byte-sized literature to inspire and activate the young writers, musicians and spoken word performers of the Mid-North Coast.
